Raiz

I was born in Napoli, Mediterranean Sea. I’ve been singing since I was a child. I’m totally into mediterranean melody AND reggae/dub. From 1992 to 2002 I’ve been the lead vocalist for Almamegretta, italian ethnodub/electronica collective – we recorded 7 albums for Sony-BMG (Anima Migrante 1992, Sanacore 1995, Indubb 1996, Lingo 1997, 4/4 2000, Imaginaria 2001 and Venite! Venite! 2002). In 2002 I started my solo career. Since then, I’ve cut “WOP” (Universal 2004), “Uno” (Universal 2007) and “YA!”, produced by Bustin’ Loose (the collective behind pop/ electronica act Planet Funk) out on early 2011.
I have also recorded two albums with Eraldo Bernocchi/Bill Laswell project Ashes: “Corpus” (CNI 1996) and “Unisono” (Edel Italy 2006), I’ve collaborated with Venice – based combo “Laboratorio Novamusica” in the recording of the album “Alphabet Music” (Galatina Music 2003), a mix of contemporary and sacred music. I like reading, writing, studying languages, acting (from 2001 to 2005 I’ve been touring with Cantieri Teatrali Koreja as an actor in their piece “Brecht’s Dance” – original music by Kurt Weill revisited by myself and Pier Paolo Polcari; I’m Moreno in Ago Panini’s film “Aspettando il Sole” – 2008); Salvatore Vitiello in Giuseppe Gagliardi’s “Tatanka Scatenato” (spring 2011) and, of course, singing. I’ve been collaborating with many artists, such as Massive Attack, Leftfield, Pino Daniele, Adrian Sherwood, Gaudi, Eraldo Bernocchi, Bill Laswell, Stewart Copeland, Meditronica, Somma, Teresa De Sio, Luigi Cinque, Zion Train…
